Anechoic Chamber for Radio-Frequency-Identification (RFID) measurements

The radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology uses RFID tags which are applied to products or persons for identification and tracking purposes. The tags transmit an information response signal on receiving an inducing radio wave from a tag reader; this is usually in the range of centimeters to a few meters away.

For the German subsidiary Checkpoint Systems International GmbH, Albatross Projects has designed and installed a fully lined absorber chamber for testing RFID equipment in, The walls, ceiling and floor of this chamber being covered with 30 cm long pyramidal foam absorbers; the facility fulfilling the ETSI requirements as determined in the corresponding standards, i.e. the deviation from the Normalized Site Attenuation and accordingly, the absorber performance above 600MHz.


The RF tests, among them tests according to ETSI EN 302 208 which are performed in this chamber, are in the frequency range 860MHz to 960MHz.

The chamber is fully lined with 12 inch and 18 inch resistive high performance RF absorbers including the walkways from the rf door to the EUT and antenna positions. The chamber features a positioning system that includes a turntable 1.5m diameter, 750kg load and of a low reflectivity EUT table in accordance to CISPR 16-1-4, 5.9; influence of table typically ±dB from 600MHz to 18GHz. One blade contact Rf door of 900 x 2,050mm clearing opening for access to the antenna position and one blade contact RF door of 1,200 x 2,050mm clearing opening for EUT entrance.

It is designed for testing RFID transponders for Tag Radiation Pattern, Tag Sensitivity and Read Sensitivity as well as other criteria.
