Purpose of use
The following reference is for the Neurochirurgische Klinik der Universität Ulm am Bezirkskrankenhaus Günzburg, Germany. This area hospital in Günzburg made the decision for an iMRI solution from BrainLAB®. The combination of MRI diagnostics, intra-operative 3D imaging and neurosurgical navigation systems are all integrated into an Operation Room (OR), considerably increasing the precision of surgical interventions. The main task of this iMRI solution is complex surgical interventions for brain cancer; it allows precision control of the invasive intrusion even when a minimal amount of brain tissue has to be removed.

The large size of the RF room made it possible to install the unique Albatross Projects RF glass door, which combines an optical highlight with the functionality and the RF-/ acoustic tightness of a state-of-the-art personnel door, and an additional entrance sliding door for the personnel. The comfortable size and the two entrance doors of the RF room provide an efficient and fluent work flow in the OR allowing high capacity utilisation. Special care was afforded to the ventilation system; this being developed together with the end-user to perfectly fit to the OR requirements. The integration of the MRI-System which included a ceiling suspended surgical microscope, neurosurgical navigation system and other equipment fitted into an RF-shielded OR, was a considerable technical challenge; we had to address static, climatic, EMC, sound, hygienic and well as other specifications and standards. During the installation, a major challenge for the Albatross Projects staff was to undertake and complete the installation whilst all surrounding medical rooms were retained in full operation.
