Purpose of use

The following reference is for the Neurochirurgical clinic of University in Tübingen, Germany.

This is the first state-of-the-art European operating room project to incorporate an intraoperative MRI unit with a movable 1.5T magnet; the solution was implemented in co-operation with IMRIS. In this particular room operations on brain tumors, epilepsy surgery or aneurysm surgeries are performed with the intraoperative MRI system. It is possible to check, during the operation activity, for residual tumor parts and removing them; this may spare the patient further interventions that could otherwise be necessary.

With the patented technology for the transport of an MRI system, a  high degree of safety and maximum benefit is delivered to IMRIS, with the significant avantage that the patient is not moved for the scanning proceedures. The  MRI’s mobility and ceiling track system allows it to enter and leave the operating room regardless of any activity on the operating table. The movement of the MRT between several rooms is controlled by safety interlocks with a unique system for collision detection on the magnet; this greatly increases the safety to the patient, the clinical team and the equipment.

For this first and state-of-the-art operating room, Albatross Projects GmbH has supplied a turnkey solution which included in the installation, four high-definition touch screens and two 65 inch LED 3D screens to assist the surgeon. In the side of the MRI Cabin there is a sliding door that is necessary due to the operating conditions, while the interior finishes of the cabin have been designed and installed to comply with the special strict hygiene conditions of an operating room.
