The illumination in chambers for EMI measurements shall be free of emission. The state-of-the-art switch mode power supply for illumination systems is especially interfering in the frequency range from 30MHz till 300 – 400MHz. Today the standard lamp for this application is still the halogen lamp type.

The solution and components shown below is the commonly used by Albatross Projects. For further information please use our multipurpose contact form.

halogen lamps

Absorber chambers are usually equipped with 300W, 500W and 750W halogen lamps.
Appropriate cooling extends the overall lifetime of a light bulb and the electric contacts. Where as possible, the lamps are located under the ceiling honeycombs to create superior ventilation of the radiated heat. Moreover the 750W lighting is housed in a large 1,000W lamp body to generate better heat radiation through a larger surface.

fluorescent lamps

Whilst fluorescent lamp technology cannot be applied for measurement chambers, it represents an advanced solution for amplifier rooms and other RF unclean environment. This lamp type provides extreme long lifetime in combination with low power consumption and low heat dissipation.

LED lighting

In shielded areas the use of LED lighting is still limited to special applications because of the technical complexity and the high cost. The electrical triggering takes places by phase control and would cause HF interferences by placing the control unit inside the shielded area. The technical measures to overcome this situation, light emission inside and control outside are complex and expensive. The today’s experience shows that the cost for comparable illumination in LED version is approx. 5 – 8 time higher than traditional halogen lighting. When ascertaining the total cost of ownership, i.e. inclusive of life time aspects and yearly power consumption, the LED lighting is getting competitive, e.g. in medical rooms it became already almost standard and will surely increase its market share in the years to come.

signal lamps

Signal Lamps are used for display purposes, either for simple information or warning. The preferred location for the installation of signal lamps is the entrance or exit area above the doors.

Signal Lamps at the chamber inside
Emergency exit lamps increase the personnel safety in an emergency case. These lamps are stand alone battery buffered to provide service even after a general power breakdown. The lamps guide the way to the next exit. The lamp size is approx. 21 x 12 x 12cm.

Signal Lamps at the chamber outside
Typical applications are TEST IN PROGRESS indication or ALARM display. The lamp size is approx. 37 x 23 x 5cm.
